1. Who we are
This website is operated by SNAPSURANCE LIMITED, trading as Snapsurance, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15472843, with its registered office at Snapsurance, 124 City Road, London, England, EC1V 2NX.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
If you have any question about this policy or about how we handle your information, email info@snapsurance.co.uk.
2. What information we collect
What we collect depends on how you contact us.
If you submit a car insurance enquiry
Our insurance enquiry form asks for the information a broker or insurer needs in order to price a risk. That includes:
- About you: title, full name, date of birth, home address, postcode, how long you have lived there, marital status, occupation, whether you own your home, email address and phone number.
- About your licence: the date you passed, whether it is manual or automatic, your no-claims bonus, and — if you choose to provide it — your driving licence number.
- About your vehicle: make, model, registration, purchase date, modifications, and your policy start date.
- About other drivers: the same categories of information for anyone you add as an additional driver.
- About your history: claims, accidents, motoring convictions and penalty points for any driver on the policy.
- Other details: your current quote, payment preference, any discount code, and anything else you tell us.
- Consent records: which boxes you ticked and the date and time you submitted the form.
If you submit a luxury car hire enquiry
Hire dates, the occasion, the vehicle you want, delivery details and postcode, your age bracket, how long you have held a licence, whether you have claims or convictions, and your name, email and phone number.
If you contact us another way
If you email, call or message us on WhatsApp, we hold whatever you choose to send us, along with your phone number or email address and the content of the conversation.
Automatically
Our hosting and any analytics we use may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. See section 9.
3. Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Respond to your enquiry and handle any follow-up | Steps taken at your request before entering a contract |
| Pass your details to an FCA-authorised broker or insurer | Your consent, given by ticking the declaration box |
| Arrange a luxury car hire booking on your behalf | Performance of a contract, or steps before one |
| Supply and fit parts, or carry out workshop work | Performance of a contract |
| Keep records of enquiries and consent given | Our legitimate interest in running the business and evidencing consent |
| Send you marketing emails | Your consent, given by ticking the optional box |
| Meet legal, tax and regulatory obligations | Legal obligation |
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything done before you withdrew it, and it will not affect information already passed to a broker or insurer — you would need to contact them separately.
4. Motoring convictions and claims history
Information about motoring convictions is treated as criminal offence data under UK data protection law and is given extra protection. We only collect it because an insurer cannot price your risk accurately without it, and we only process it where you have given consent and where a condition in Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018 applies.
We do not use this information for any purpose other than passing it, with your consent, to an authorised broker or insurer.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Snapsurance introduces customers, with their consent, to FCA-authorised brokers and insurers. We do not advise on, arrange or sell insurance products ourselves. Once your details are passed on, the broker or insurer becomes an independent data controller for the information they hold, and their own privacy policy applies.
We share personal information with:
- FCA-authorised brokers and insurers, where you have consented to an introduction.
- Vehicle hire suppliers, where you have asked us to check availability or arrange a booking.
- Formspree, the service that delivers our website forms to our inbox.
- Hostinger, our website host.
- Our email provider, which stores enquiry emails.
- Professional advisers, and law enforcement or regulators, where we are legally required to disclose.
Each of these processes data on our instructions under a written agreement, except for brokers, insurers and hire suppliers, who are independent controllers once your details reach them.
6. Where your data is held
Our website and email are hosted within the UK or the European Economic Area.
Formspree, which delivers our enquiry forms, is based in the United States, so form submissions are transferred outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on International Data Transfer Agreements, together with appropriate safeguards, to make sure your information receives an equivalent level of protection.
7. How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not proceed: up to 12 months, then deleted.
- Enquiries that lead to an introduction or a booking: up to 6 years from the end of our relationship with you, to meet accounting obligations and to defend any claim.
- Marketing consent records: until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards to evidence the request.
- Driving licence numbers: deleted as soon as the enquiry has been passed on or closed.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- ask us to delete your information, where there is no overriding reason to keep it;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
- ask us to transfer it to another organisation;
- withdraw consent at any time; and
- opt out of marketing at any time, using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us.
To exercise any of these, email info@snapsurance.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.
9. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies that are necessary for the website to work, and we may use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. Non-essential cookies are only set where you have agreed to them, and you can change your choice at any time through your browser settings or our cookie banner.
Our website may link to third-party platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices — please read their own policies.
10. Security
Our website uses an encrypted connection, access to enquiry data is limited to people who need it, and we review who has access. No system is completely secure, so please do not send driving licence numbers, dates of birth or payment details to us by WhatsApp, social media message or unencrypted email — use the enquiry form or tell us over the phone.
11. Age
Our services are aimed at people aged 17 and over who hold or are applying for a driving licence. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes and complaints
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and any significant change will be highlighted on this page.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first at info@snapsurance.co.uk so we have the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, by calling 0303 123 1113, or by writing to Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
